Cobaltocalcite - Natural minerals and crystals

Cobaltocalcite, also known as Sphaerocobaltite, is a mineral from the carbonate family. It generally occurs in the form of rhombohedral crystals or compact masses. Its color varies from pink to intense pink, attributable to the presence of cobalt in its crystal structure. Cobaltocalcite is translucent to transparent with a vitreous to pearly sheen. It has a hardness of 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale, making it relatively soft. It is mainly found in cobalt and nickel deposits, notably in Morocco, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia. It is often used as an ornamental stone because of its attractive color.
