Chalcopyrite - Natural minerals and crystals

Chalcopyrite is a sulfide class mineral, specifically a copper and iron sulfide. It generally occurs in the form of tetrahedral or prismatic crystals, but can also be massive or granular. Its color varies from golden brass to gold, often with green or purple iridescence. It has a hardness of 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale, a specific gravity of approximately 4.1 to 4.3, and a greenish-black streak. Chalcopyrite is a common component of hydrothermal veins and massive sulfide deposits, and is often associated with pyrite and other sulfides. It is an important source of copper and is exploited for this purpose.
