Selenite - Natural minerals and crystals

Selenite is a mineral, which can be considered as a variety of gypsum if one follows Anglo-Saxon habits or a synonym if one follows French usage. It occurs in a crystalline form, frequently translucent to transparent, varying in color between colorless and reddish1. Its name comes from the Greek selenitis, "moon stone", because it is said to see the radiance of the moon. Gypsum being one of the most widespread mineral species, gem crystals (selenite) are extremely common and distributed all over the planet.
