Aventurine is a variety of quartz belonging to the group of Oxides (Silicon dioxide) which is characterized by its various inclusions. The most common inclusions being those of micas and hematite offering a reddish color, and those of muscovite or fuchsite giving a more widespread green coloring. These inclusions give Aventurine a sparkling iridescent effect: Adventurescence. Aventurine is a fairly rare mineral that forms in magmatic rocks, especially pegmatites, and in hydrothermal veins. It is also found in shales in the form of small veins.
