Variscite is part of the group of phosphates. Variscite is a mineral made up of aluminum phosphate dihydrate, with traces of iron and arsenic. It is the principal representative of a group of phosphates and arsenates. The main deposits are located in the USA, Canada and Argentina. The word derives from Variscia, historical name of Vogtland in Germany, place of the topotype.
