Moss agate - Natural minerals and crystals

Moss agate, scientifically known as "Moss Agate", is a semi-precious mineral that belongs to the quartz family. Its name "moss" comes from its mineral inclusions that resemble moss or ferns, generally green or sometimes red or brown. These inclusions are often manganese or iron oxides. Contrary to what its name suggests, it does not contain organic matter. Moss agate is a silica stone, more specifically a form of chalcedony, that typically forms in volcanic raw rocks and minerals">rocks. Its hardness is 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, making it strong enough for a variety of uses, including jewelry. Its crystal system is rhombohedral.
